Always Be Interviewing
This is a blog post about the insights of someone way smarter than me, way for down the path I want to take…
I was talking about my interview process for $BIG_TECH
and they started talking about one of their principles: always be interviewing.
You need to always be open to interviews, even if you’re in a great team, with a great salary.
The reason is that it triggers a subconcious process, where you are always weighting in the background what you’re suffering through at your current position VS what you could be doing somewhere else.
Negociation 101: who cares least, wins
Turns out there is a fair bit of stuff written about that. It works with relationships in general; the more you have, the more empowered you are in individual relationships, because you have many options.
I think this advice applies to entrepreneurship, picking partners in general.
I should always be talking to many different people, and trying out different stuff, rather than working on the same project with the same person; there’s always something better out there, even if everything feels amazing right now…
Overall, I wish I had more connections. Tomorrow, I’m going to spend one hour talking to people on Discord; hopefully that’ll open some doors :).
Also, I planned an interview for next week, I have an interview this evening and one tomorrow morning.
The weird thing is: I don’t really want to work for them… I just want to gain experience and trigger that subconcious process.
(but, well, if I have no choice… I’ll take the 180k$/year and stimulating work environment) (stimulating is an understatement, from what I saw)
Cheers
