Just do it.

Productive

Sorry. I promised to write a blog post about improvements in my morning routine.

A typical morning

Truth is, it’s pretty good as it is!

  1. I wake up at 10am. Snooze my alarm a little.
  2. Wake up again 10 minutes later. Rise up
  3. It’s always a bit chaotic, but I end up:
  4. doing one chore
  5. dressing up
  6. preparing my work bag
  7. cooking something to eat

It takes between 1 hour and 2 hours each morning.

How to reduce the time it takes? I’d say, sleeping earlier.

The problem is that when I’m sleepy, I want to take a shower, read a book…

Take it slow.

Improvements I can do are to be done in the evening instead. Going to bed strictly at midnight, reading only 30 minutes, etc…

Anyway, it’s working pretty well.

Ah, and cooking is super fast because I just eat some canned food. #lifehack

It’s not that unhealthy actually. I eat a lot of vegetables (around 500g) and it seems to be doing the trick.

I’ve been productive

So the good news, is that I’ve been super productive!

Even in the evening, I end up doing phone calls to straighten up some administrative stuff or keep in touch with relatives.

It’s my way of socializing. I really need to get out the house and meet actual people, but I would be way less productive…

Looks like a bad way of thinking, though.

A typical workday

So, after my morning routine, I go to another floor of the building, where there is a nice room with A/C and a city view.

I open up my laptop, and the first thing I do is opening up Obsidian.

If I open another app, like texting apps, my day starts weird and I don’t get organized as well.

So, it’s important that I open up Obsidian first.

There, there are a list of tasks I need to do every day.

Here are the tasks related to “life-quality”:

My goal is to tick those as much as possible, but I don’t really have an obligation.

They’re more here to remind myself about an ideal I should try to follow.

And then, there are the rest of the tasks, that I have to write.

There are Beeminder tasks (I try to do 30mn-1h of “Beeminding” every morning), office tasks (actual work) and evening tasks (stuff to do after I clock out at 8pm). There are also tasks that I need to do outside, like groceries.

Organizing myself takes between 30 minutes and 1 hour.

After that, I “beemind”, which takes between 30 minutes and 1 hour.

There are various tasks, like writing a blog post ;).

Then, I start working at my actual job.

I take a break around 6pm, to go buy some groceries. Sometimes I just hop on the treadmill.

At 8pm, I’m off. I hop on the treadmill there sometimes too, if I’m motivated.

Then I go home, and do some evening tasks. Mostly calling people, and Beeminder stuff I can only do at home.

That worked well for me this week and last week, and I’m looking forward to repeating this every week!

I’m now in a situation where I feel that I worked enough and can take my weekend off without feeling too guilty.

Sorry, that was a mess of a post, but future self (who will inevitably crumble upon the weight of my own strictness) will be interested about this, probably :)
